Wow, great review and personal insight. I’m curious if you credit your love of stories, cinema & literature for evolving beyond the cultural views you were raised with. There has been at least one psychological study which demonstrated reading fiction increases a person’s empathy and I fully believe that. I also believe that empathy is the root of morality, not religion. Your experience & viewpoint here seem to encapsulate that.
