Antonio was a boy who was born in the east of the country in a small town where the economy was based on fishing and working the land, above all; being the second of 3 married brothers, from a very young age life was difficult for him, when he was only two years old, his mother got tired of the life of poverty and humility that they led and abandoned them with his father.
His father, a hard man hardened by the laborious work of the field, soon fell ill, it is not known if it was because of his life so full of work or if added to the sadness of being alone with three children in charge, he won the few will to live and soon died, leaving 3 children orphaned, which relatives were divided among themselves each one in different families; leaving only Antonio who did not have the offer of any of his relatives. ..., only a humble woman and her husband, neighbors of his father, upon seeing that little boy almost destitute, decided to open the doors of their home to them.
Antonio grew up with the many children of that couple, they were his family, his support, his real brothers, it took years to hear from them ..., but let's return to the story of Antonio. He grew up between the sugar cane fields and the river of the town, where they fished, washed and bathed. As a teenager Antonio was even more aware of the poverty of the place, he dreamed of going to the capital, so he decided to go saving to fulfill his dream, but between that, he spent many needs and promised himself that he was going to leave that place...
Already being a young man of about 19 years old, he was given the opportunity to come to the city. Soon he got a job as an apprentice bricklayer, it was a tough job, hard, but he already knew the hard work, so that did not matter to him, but he thought that he was not going to be an apprentice all his life, he was going to study to improve, because he knew that with only a sixth grade, he did not have much to offer. At the first opportunity he was studying at night for his bachelor's degree and he was also studying to be a master mason, that was something.
In the period in which he was preparing himself academically, he was worrying about his appearance, because now he had to buy little by little the clothes he liked, the shoes, his ties, his colognes, because something he always had was the good taste for manly fashion, anyone who saw him on the street did not think that Antonio had such a strong job, because his hands had no signs of this work, because he took care of his hands with creams and gloves suitable for it, besides the work gave him an enviable physical condition.
In one of those works in which he worked, he met a young woman who every morning passed in front of where he was, the girl was beautiful and all the young workers wanted to attract attention, but none could fulfill their task, only an insistent Antonio that with gallant details made that girl ended up accepting him as her boyfriend and soon after as her husband. They got married and a year later they had a beautiful baby girl whom they cared for with great care.
The years passed, the economic situation improved, because his studies had borne fruit and his job gave him a promotion; but Antonio in family matters and in expressing his feelings was very reserved, it was not known in many occasions what he thought, nor what he felt, it was only known that when he did not like something, it was a refusal without explanation and when he liked something just a smile appeared on his face, therefore, with his little daughter he was a little dry father, perhaps a little rough in his treatment, especially when she began to grow and become a pretty young girl.
But he also knew how to be charming when he wanted to be with his friends and with women..., he was another person; at home his way of being could be said, he was macho, he did not like the women of the house to visit without him or to receive them, and much less to walk alone in the street, his rules had to be fulfilled both with his wife and with his daughter, sometimes it was distressing to see him come home, because there were days when he came home in a bad mood and everything bothered him. Then the whole atmosphere would change. When his little daughter did something that seemed inappropriate to him, she was punished heavily "because that's how boys learn" even though his wife would talk to him to change, he was adamant about these things, because that's how he was raised and he said that nothing had affected him, that he was complete, so he was fine, according to him.
This situation took its toll on his marriage and on his teenage daughter, because she had very few pleasant memories where her father showed her affection, although he always provided her with everything she needed, clothes, shoes, food, studies, but she rarely saw that loving father. He separated from his still young wife, with whom he already had another son, there were already two, but this did not matter for his decision, he thought he was still young. After a short time he formalized another family, seeing from time to time these older children; they grew up with many questions inside them.
They all tried to make their own lives, even her children. The years went by and an aging Antonio tried to keep in touch with his first children, because he had realized that he had made many mistakes with them and speaking for the first time he told them about his childhood, about what he lived and the reason for so many things...his daughter finally had the opportunity to communicate her feelings towards him, what she had expected and what she had not received on many occasions, when they had that conversation, she felt that she was liberated.
They all relieved her soul, no one felt that burden anymore, her children had understood why he was the way he was and they understood that his many "No" was to protect them even though he did not explain why; that when he punished them physically strong, it was not because he did not feel it, but it was his way of "educating" that he had not seen other ways and believed them correct, he did not know other ways, therefore, that was what he gave them and that sometimes his inflexibility was his way of setting his limits, it took old age and illness for all of them to understand many situations.
At the end of Antonio's days, he left in peace knowing that he had not been perfect and that he had not been wrong in everything, he had also done good things for his children, because he taught values to his children, honesty, loyalty in spite of everything, humility, he taught them to love nature and animals, to respect other people, to be patient, to be practical in solving problems, to work hard and honest, to support each other as a family when it is necessary to support.
He left this world, knowing that he had done the best he could, that his children had finally understood him as adults, but he was given time to explain what he never knew how to explain, God gave him that coming. His children had accepted him with all his imperfections and today they try with their own children to be better parents if possible, but yes, keeping those values that their father taught him and that even today endure in their lives and are perpetuated in their own children.
