I am here to discuss the developments in Splinterlands that seem to be out of sync with the game’s core principles. It begs the question: do the developers even know their own game anymore?
Splinterlands has different leagues - Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Diamond - that are not based on skill but rather on budget. If you have an annual budget of $100, you choose Bronze. If you have an annual budget of $500, you choose Silver, and so on. Within each league, there are different skill levels. A Bronze 3 player is weaker than a Bronze 1 player.
However, Splinterlands is introducing features that seem to suggest that Bronze players are bad and Diamond players are good. This contradicts the entire system principle. For example, why are the mana caps adjusted for each league?
It makes no sense. a card at Bronze level has the same amount of mana as a card at Diamond level. If anything, the mana cap should have been adjusted for levels 3, 2, and 1 because a Bronze 3 player probably has a smaller deck than a Bronze 1 player.
Another contradiction in Splinterlands is how the staking and reward system works. In Bronze 3, you cannot earn anything, which means that a new player is expected to directly move out of Bronze 3 to Bronze 2 or 1. This makes no sense. It would only make sense if one assumes that the entire Bronze area is amateur and it gets stronger as you move up to silver, gold ect. But Splinterlands is not such a game.
Moreover, the introduction of level penalty made it official that the league has nothing to do with the player’s ability. So why are the developers introducing features that contradict this principle?
It seems like the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. The developers need to get back to the basics and ensure that the game’s features align with its core principles.
The community’s latest proposal to remove gladiators from Bronze falls into the same trap. It is based on the assumption that bronze is amateur and diamond is professional. But that is absolutely wrong, because only Bronze 3 is bronze amateur, Bronze 1 is bronze professional!
