| Bis zu meinem 33. Lebensjahr lebte ich in der beschaulichen Schweizer Gemeinde Tägerwilen, in direkter Nachbarschaft zu Konstanz am Bodensee. Meine Familienlinie (so weit Nachforschungen ergeben) war stets hier ansässig und Teil des Dorflebens. | Until the age of 33, I lived in the quiet Swiss community of Tägerwilen, in direct neighborhood to Constance on Lake Constance. My family line (so far researches) was always located here and part of the village community. |
| Das mittlerweile 4300 Einwohner zählende Dorf ist geprägt vom Gemüseanbau und Obstplantagen (fast ausschliesslich Biologisch). Die nähe zum See beschert der Region ein etwas milderes Klima. | The now 4300 inhabitants counting village is characterized by vegetable farming and orchards (almost exclusively organic). The location next to the lake gives the region a slightly warmer climate. |
| Die gut Tausend Jahre alte Burgruine, war einst Aussenposten und Fluchtmöglichkeit der Bischöfe von Konstanz. Im dem 17. Jahrhundert wurde in unmittelbarer Umgebung das Schloss Castell errichtet, welches sein heutiges Aussehen der grossen Neugestaltung Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bekam. | The castle ruines, which is over a thousand years old, was once an outpost and a refuge for the bishops of Constance. In the 17th century “Schloss Castell” was built near to the old ruins and got its present look by the redesign at the end of the 19th century. |
| Persöhnlichkeiten (zumindest Regional) wie der Kinderbuchillustrator Ernst Kreidolf und der Botaniker Hermann Müller-Thurgau (Züchter der Weinrebsorte Müller-Thurgau), aber auch die Biotta AG mit ihren Biologischen Obst- und Gemüsesäften machen die Gemeinde über ihre Grenzen bekannt. | Celebrities (at least regionally) such as the children's book illustrator Ernst Kreidolf and the botanist Hermann Müller-Thurgau (breeder of the grape variety Müller-Thurgau), but also the Biotta AG with their biological fruit and vegetable juices make the community known beyond its borders. |
