Did you watch Sesame Street when you were young? I did, I even got to stay up late. And I think it is a shame its not here anymore for my kids due to budget cuts.

Sesame Street was established in 1969 as an educational program to help children in deprived neighborhoods to get rid of their learning disabilities in a playful way. [1] The program was successful, among other things, by the puppets of puppeteer Jim Henson and puppet maker Don Sahlin, the Muppets, who later also played an important role in The Muppet Show.

Before starting to air real episodes, 5 test episodes were first broadcast. The first of these aired on July 21, 1969. The first actual episode aired on November 10, 1969. The program was very successful right from the start. After one season, CTW had already won three Emmy Awards with it, for the best children's program and for the script and music. The program received 17 other awards during this period, including the Peabody Award and a Prix Jeunesse. In 1998, Sesame Street had won more than a hundred awards, including 71 Emmy Awards.

Sesame Street was sold to 120 countries and twenty different international versions were produced. More than 4,500 episodes have been made of the original series. Since January its not on tv here anymore.
