Looking forward to a bumper crop may be your desire, but mother nature often has different plans.
In our video title "Tea for the Tillerman" we had prepared a garden for Onions and Potatoes which you can see here. Once the Potatoes started to come up they looked like this and we were quite happy with the results.
Unfortunately we had and evening of frost, and this was how the potatoes looked in the morning. We were expecting the frost and prepared accordingly, covering our peppers and tomatoes but it wasn't enough.
Here you can see our peppers before, and after. Here is how our tomatoes looked in the morning. The tomato loss is quite a disappointment as we had some nice heritage varieties which we started from seed. We'll plant new tomatoes in a day or so and we'll see if the peppers actually survive.
As for the potatoes, a little research has us feeling confident that they'll be fine. We hilled the potatoes and will provide an update in a future video.
As for the new chicks, here they are a couple of days old. After a week in the basement it was time to move them out the coop. Candy promised to keep them safe! Here they are after another week, starting to get a few feathers and no longer confining themselves to the corner.
Finally, here they are after another week. Get bigger, braver, and a lot more curious.
