You could argue that it's impossible to audit the total supply of gold worldwide, meaning we have to trust the official numbers. On the other hand, anyone can setup a Bitcoin node and verify the total supply trustlessly.
That said, I think it will take some time (years or decades) for the population to adjust to cryptocurrencies, and finally accept them as a better form of money than precious metals or debt-based fiat.
As for stubborn goldbugs, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
