If you are interested in modern science, you should read the Brian Green series.
It was very good in all three volumes, and once we get to the first volume,

The first half, especially the explanation of quantum mechanics, is great. In understanding quantum mechanics fundamentals, I have not seen such a book in reading and understanding in plain language. (In other words, if you know of other better books, I would recommend you to comment.) Other books have a mysterious analogy about the core parts that are difficult to explain in mathematics ), I think this book shows the best performance that can be done in plain language. Especially in quantum mechanics, the double slit experiment, which is considered to be the most important experiment among the human history of science, is very well explained by introducing Feynman's point of view.
Of course, there is an inevitable limit to the explanation of the principle of uncertainty in general language. For example, the commonly explained method, and the way it is better explained in this book, is that the uncertainty principle is due to the limitations of the length of the wave in observing electrons, which is not true. There is a clear implication of the uncertainty principle in the mathematical fact that the matrix used as the vector operator does not hold the exchange law.
(For reference, I have mathematics and a degree. I studied linear algebra and partial differential equations for quantum mechanics.)
However, since the middle part of the theory, I do not think I need to read it too seriously. From superstring theory, it seems that it can not be properly expressed in plain language without mathematical understanding. (And, if Brian Green, who is really excellent in narrative skills, could not do it, I would not be able to do it.) If so, I would recommend another book. I think that it is not only a mistake but also an inaccurate understanding.
So, anyway, 2, 3 also comes with superstring theory, so if you plan to read 2 or 3, you might just read half and go to the structure of the 2nd space. (There are aspects where the content is duplicated, but the two pieces are two pieces and the three pieces are three pieces.)
Feynman said, "The core of quantum mechanics is included in the double slit experiment."
My personal opinion is that it is really a great income to understand quantum mechanics. It would be really nice to have a simple and accurate understanding of the gang in a painless little effort, and Brian Green believes that it is such a great and great help.
The book came out in the late 2000s, so you may be worried about whether the latest updates have not been updated, but quantum mechanics is not. I think that the core to come out almost anyway before the 2000s.
Those who are interested in modern science do not regret it.
