Here in Madrid, no building appears grand in importance without a cupola.

Whether set atop columns, or simply a cap to a beautiful rotunda, cupolas reign supreme here in the Spanish capital.

This beautiful cupola appears regal and stately. It stands attentively over Plaza del Callao below.

The Edificio Metrópolis, standing in the center of Madrid's busy Gran Via, was built in 1911. It's black and gold trim evokes the Spanish power of old.

Crowned by a sculpture of Winged Victory, it was designed by Spanish architect Federico Coullaut-Valera Mendigutia. The Metrópolis building marks the beginning of Madrid's main thoroughfare, the Gran Via.

These cupolas are accompanied by gold archers and hounds.
