Keeping keys safe is important, without them access to blockchain records to move funds is impossible.
If we lose our mobile, or get hit with a virus, then the keys can be lost forever.
Backing up data is always a great idea, especially if keys are involved.
The question is can users trust iCloud or Google to secure those keys?
Given the number of hacks on those platforms, it is a good thing that the data is being encrypted
