When I booked our most recent camping trip, there was one thing that I absolutely knew we were going to do. It didn't matter the weather, the distance, the logistics of getting everyone there, we were going to visit Legs Inn.

@mrsbozz and I had visited Legs for the first time last year when we were camping in this area. It was after having an amazing lunch here that we returned to our travel trailer and found a water leak had flooded portions of it. We packed up and headed home with dreams of pierogies dancing in my head.

When I started talking to @diamonddave's wife about where to book our camping trips this summer, I mentioned Wilderness State Park with the expectation that we would find our way down to Legs Inn again.

There isn't much in the small town of Cross Village, MI. There is a gas station, a post office, two or three churches, a couple souvenir shops, a brewery, and Legs Inn. We actually arrived a little early not realizing they don't open until 12:00 noon on the dot. Even so, there was already a line starting to form outside the door.

Across the street from the Inn parking lot was this cool bear statue that had been painted on all sides. I grabbed some photos to share with you. It has a distinct Native American motif and I believe it tells a story if you follow the drawings around.

I did say drawings on all sides didn't I? It looks like there was some kind of great fire on the butt side of the bear. Maybe he ate something really spicy...

Probably more likely it was the colonizers burning the forests to make room for their settlements or something.

We headed back across the street and we stopped to read this sign that gives you a good overview of the Inn and how it came to be here.

Here's the same thing for those of you who read Polish! Though I am not Polish myself, my wife comes from a large Polish family, so places like this just seem like a natural fit for us.

I wrote a post about a year ago that has more extensive photos of the inside and outside of Legs Inn. I encourage you to check it out if you want to see more photos of the place. I grabbed the shot above of some china they had sitting in the window as we were waiting in line to enter the establishment.

Eventually, the doors opened wide and we were free to go!

We requested to sit out on the covered patio where @mrsbozz and I had sat alone a year before. They usually only allow parties of four in that area, but they made an exception for us. Leave it to a teenage boy to make a goofy face like that. If you knew @diamonddave though, you wouldn't be surprised since it is his son!

We started off with a small appetizer of whitefish spread paired with rye bread and sesame crackers. I thought it was good, but not the best whitefish spread I have ever had. You need to head up to the Lake Superior area for that.

My meal consisted of the "Sloppy George". It was basically roasted pork and beef along with vegetables in a rich sauce. I know it's not really much to look at in the photo, but trust me, it was delicious! It reminded me of the hunters stew (bigos) they serve here, but without the sauerkraut.

If you have been following me for a while, you probably won't be shocked to learn that @mrsbozz went with the chicken sandwich. She said it was quite good and instead of using the chipotle creme sauce that they served it with, she stole the garlic aioli from our friends son (he didn't want it) and she used that to dip her sandwich.

@diamonddave wasn't able to make this trip due to the illness he has been struggling with for over six months now. His wife selected the Reuben sandwich as her choice, but she got turkey on it instead of corned beef or pastrami. She declared that it was one of the best reubens she has ever had. She insisted I take a bit and I have to admit it was a pretty amazing sandwich.

It would definitely be on my list of things to try in the future when we come back here again.

The perogies in the opening photo and the one above were claimed by none other than @diamonddave's daughter. She proceeded to eat just about every single one of them. I think her mom and @mrsbozz might have shared one. The presentation was just beautiful and it was hard to keep myself from sneaking my fork across the table to snag one. I am sure if I had asked she would have grudgingly shared with me!

Finally, our youngest companion selected the CBLT sandwich with a few exceptions. The 'C' in BLT stands for California which means it had avocado on it. He selected to leave that off. He also asked that the "juicy tomato" be left off. I had to chuckle at that because most people would have just asked for no tomato, but in the description of the sandwich they specifically said "juicy tomato", so that's exactly how he asked for it to be nixed.

He also asked that the garlic aioli be on the side instead of on the sandwich, which as I said was a good thing since @mrsbozz liberated it from him. I found myself dipping some of my fries in the aioli and I have to agree, it was quite amazing. The cook on the bacon was pretty much perfect and all of us that got fries demolished them.

If you are ever within an hour of the Cross Village, MI area, Legs Inn is an absolute must stop. If not for the food, the atmosphere alone is pretty cool!
