As usual, my listening was really all over the place this week. For the majority of the week I was listening to some lighter stuff in my office. They have state testing going on and I need to keep the volume at a reasonable level (2 points if you get the reference).
That means mostly through the week I was listening to my time honored playlist of either jazz, classical, or Spanish guitar music.
There were a handful of exceptions to the status quo, and that is what I am going to share with you here.
This isn't the video I was looking for. I was trying to find the non acoustic version so I could share it with you. I really felt like I needed to prove to some people out there that I don't just listen to adult pop or elevator music.
Unfortunately, this acoustic take is all I could find. I can't tell you how I learned about Sons of Silver, but if I had to guess, it was probably a recommendation from Spotify.
Although it is somewhat "unplugged", you can still sense the grittiness in the lead singers voice and it probably isn't to hard to imagine how their other stuff likely sounds.
The lead singer kind of reminds me of the singer from Godsmack a bit, especially on this track compared to something like Voodoo. If you like this style of music and you have never heard of them, I highly recommend you check them out.
If you know me, you know that I am a huge fan of Counting Crows. Right before the whole pandemic thing the band had finished up their latest tour and had taken a break from touring. There was some speculation that it was going to be a quite a lengthy hiatus.
Then the pandemic hit and Adam Duritz (lead singer) was diving full bore into doing cooking videos on Instagram. He still was sharing interesting bands that he was listening to and things like that, but it did seem that he was distancing himself from the world of music.
I was floored when I got an email the other day announcing that Counting Crows had a new song out and that they were going to be releasing a new album at the end of May. I was about over the moon!
I think I heard on the radio that the album is going to be an EP, so just a couple of songs, but I am still excited about it. I wouldn't call this song "Elevator Boots" anything game changing for Counting Crows, but it follows their consistent pattern of good lyrics, nice hooks, and great instrumentation.
I'll be impatiently waiting for the new album on May 21st!
I never really got into Billie Eilish when she first came out. It probably wasn't until after I really started to listen to Lana Del Rey a lot that I really started to appreciate this style of music. I mean of course I liked her song "Bad Guy", but beyond that I really didn't know much of her stuff.
As I listened to more of her stuff, I started to realize that she actually does have a good voice and she has some pretty decent musical knowledge under her belt. i.e. I don't think she is just your standard pop princess being fed hit maker songs that she didn't write.
Personally, I love the song, hate the video. It is the snake. I can't stand snakes. I guess some people dig that sort of thing, but not me. I just can't do it. I look forward to listening to the rest of the album when it comes out.
Until then, we just have this latest single that was released from it.
