As the weather finally starts to heat up for good in the Midwest of the United States, many of us are thinking about days when we can drive with our windows down and enjoy the nice weather. I've already seen a couple of motorcycles out, and it is only a matter of time before our short window closes and we are soon cooped up in air conditioned spaces.
With all that in mind, I thought it might be a good idea to share some Car-Tunes (see what I did there) with you on this #threetunetuesday sponsored by

You know, those songs that you can't help but crank up loud and sing along with anytime they come on the radio. Imagine speeding down the highway, windows down, wind in your hair, arm out the window, belting out the lyrics like a drunk fool during Friday night Karaoke.
It's a great feeling honestly, and one of the surest signs that Summer is just around the corner. Especially where I live, after being closed up for the cold winter, people are just begging for a reason to get out and enjoy the sun and fresh air.
At least up until now, I haven't been able to think of a song that exemplifies what I stated above more than this song by Tom Petty. It's the quintessential road trip song. If you asked me to paint a mental picture of a car driving down the road with the windows down and the radio blasting, this is the first song I would think of that was playing.
I don't know why, it's not like I grew up a huge Tom Petty fan. Even today, I wouldn't rate him in my top 10 favorite artists. There is just something about this song though. From the opening to the chorus. It's got a driving rhythm and beat that takes me to that place.
If have never heard it before and you like this live version, make sure you check out the album version sometime. I feel like it is even better.
While I love "Living on a Prayer", I like "Lay Your Hands on Me", and "Bad Medicine" a lot better. Those both have some pretty amazing beats and if you ever need a song to help you keep pace when you are walking or jogging, I highly recommend those.
The problem is, while the chorus has that definite anthem quality, the verses are a lot faster than "Living on a Prayer" and I feel that makes it more difficult to belt this out while you are cruising down the road.
As you can see from the live video above, there is just something about the chorus of "Living on a Prayer" that gets people going. I honestly got chills a little bit when they got to the chorus part and the whole crowd started singing along.
Don't laugh, but Ke$ha is one of my guilty pleasures. You might have expected a Taylor Swift song to fill out this post, but there is just something about artists like Ke$ha and Jessie J that I really dig.
They just write some really fun songs that you can't help but sing along to. Actually, not just sing along, this is one of those songs that gets me dancing as well. I just can't seem to sit still when it is playing. Maybe not so good when you are driving a car.
Granted, this might be one of those songs that I save for when I am on a deserted back road versus flying down the express way where everyone can see me!
Ke$ha has some fun songs. I wouldn't consider her the most talented vocalist, but she has a lot of energy, she is easy on the eyes, and her songs are just downright fun. Tell me you don't sing along when "Tik Tok" comes on...
Finally, if you know me, you know I am a huge fan of Neil Diamond. It only felt right that I include this bonus track for you. There was a movie in 1999 called "Lost and Found" with David Spade and Sophie Marccau. It was a romantic comedy about a lost dog.
If you have seen it, you know near the end of the movie there is a very special connection to Neil Diamond and the song I shared above plays prominently in that scene. It's one of my favorite Neil Diamond songs and I can't help but sing along as loud as I can whenever it comes on.
It's pretty fantastic.
