In case you haven't heard, in just under a week, many folks in North America are going to be experiencing this little thing called a total solar eclipse. I kid you not, this thing has gotten more press than anything I can think of recent history. Even Covid. Okay, maybe not Covid.
It's crazy though. Towns were already declaring a state of emergency a full month or two before the event was even scheduled to take place. Oddly enough, it's not that they think the eclipse is going to mess up the grid, or give everyone superpowers like in the TV show "Heroes". No, most of them are worried that the sudden influx of people is going to cause a run on resources in any given area.
People have been stocking up on needed supplies leading up to this occasion so they won't have to venture into town and brave the crowds.
Schools are getting totally shut down. My sister in law is a teacher on the outskirts of Columbus, OH and her school district is shut down. My niece who attends college in Tiffin, OH which last I knew was directly in the path of totality has had all of her classes canceled for that day.
I get that this is a pretty rare event, but I never would have guessed it was quite this big. People are absolutely freaking out. I bet if you keep an eye on the headlines you are going to see even more stories about crazy stuff happening in small towns all across America.
Nevermind what this is going to do to the traditional and crypto markets (maybe nothing? Who knows?).
I remember when I was in grade school we had a pretty significant eclipse. They didn't close school down, but we had to stay indoors and they shut all the curtains so we wouldn't fry our retinas. Obviously we had a very different approach back then besides buying everyone "eclipse glasses" and hoping they are smart enough to keep them on.
According to this site where I live and work is only going to see between 90 and 95 percent totality, but as of right now they are calling for clouds all day, so besides a whole lot of darkness, we may not see anything.
I heard recently that they actually changed the path of totality just a bit and some towns that thought they were going to have a pretty good view are now right on the edge. Talk about a bummer!
Where I work, we have school that day, but I don't know if the district has made any formal plans on how they are going to handle this. It looks like kids will be on the bus when it happens, so who knows how they are going to handle that. Perhaps we should have had a half day that day. Make it the parents problems if their kids go blind.

Similar to my post last week about totally different songs with the same name, I felt obliged to include the in this post. So, in honor of the total solar eclipse and all the folks across Mexico, America, and Canada who will be staring at the sun between 11 AM and 5:30 PM next Monday, these songs are for you.
I've always been a fan of U2, they are one of my all time favorite bands, so it's only natural that I would highlight them first in this post.
I'm actually not sure I have ever heard this Jason Aldean song before. In my opinion it's a pretty solid country song though. I'm sure 
Aldean is one of those artists that I kind of have a love hate relationship with. As a person, I just don't think he is a very good guy. Besides his personal life choices, he seems to have some political views that I don't really share. I don't let things like that keep me from listening to his music though. It takes a lot more than that for me to even consider cancelling someone or something.
The fact is, he just sings some good solid country music. Sure, there was some controversy around the message in his one song "Try that in a small town" and while I don't necessarily agree with all of it. It holds a bit of truth as well.
I got the chance to see Aldean several years ago at a concert in Ohio. He's one of those folks that doesn't have a big showy performance, he just comes out on the stage, sings his songs and goes home for the night.
Sometimes, that's all you need.
Finally, we have this nice little gem by Post Malone featuring SZA also called "Staring at the Sun". Like the song before this one, I don't think I have ever heard this song before, but I am quite familiar with Post Malone. While his looks aren't what you would call traditional, he is actually a very talented artist.
I'm still working on digging into some of the country stuff that he has been working on lately. His performance at the beginning of the Superbowl was pretty phenomenal too. This is actually a really good song with a nice vibe. SZA really adds that something extra to it as well. My niece got to see her in concert a short time ago and she said it was one of the best shows she has ever been to.
I wouldn't mind seeing Post Malone in concert sometime. As I said, he is a very talented fellow.
