That title is pretty fitting given the fact that we just finished the Thanksgiving season in the US. While I didn't go entirely overboard, I did eat a fair bit more than I probably would normally. Thanksgiving is an event in itself, but then you have the fact that family is in town, so a couple dinners out here and there isn't all that uncommon. You can certainly do things to avoid being a total glutton, but there is some compromise involved.
Believe it or not, this post isn't really about food. Though I will likely use a fair number of food photos throughout.
Maybe a decade or so ago, the banking industry was having a big push to get people to start saving money. Actually, I take that back. It was a nationwide campaign by the American Bankruptcy Institute and they used the slogan "Feed The Pig" to get you thinking about saving your money. In fact, they had a series of radio and TV ads that had a fun and lighthearted message about feeding your piggy bank.
It appears they have largely abandoned that campaign, but there is still a small section of their website dedicated to the "feeding the pig".
If I have to be honest with you, the ABI sounds totally made up. Maybe bankruptcy is more popular than I anticipated though.
"Our mission is to be the central resource for networking, research and education for our members at every stage of their career."
I honestly don't know why you would want to be a member of a group that deals with bankruptcy. It seems like that is one group you would be trying your best to avoid, but what do I know?
I am a saver though, so I do like the idea of feeding the pig. In fact, I have been doing a pretty good job of trying to do that with my HBD savings. It's kind of hard to beat 15% interest on something that you can basically just set it and forget it.
Sure, I know there is a fair amount of risk involved. Especially if you spend any amount of time in many of the HIVE related Discords out there. People seem to think HIVE is slowly circling the drain or already on passed to the other side. I don't agree with that, but I have always been a bit of an optimist.
By the way, in case you haven't noticed, it's the first of the month. That means it's HIVE Power Up Day. I did a small power up of just over 400 HIVE on this account which is my main one. On my secondary account I did a significantly smaller power up, but it was still a power up. Growing that account has proven to be harder than I anticipated, but I still hope to get it to a pretty big level one day.
Especially given the fact that there may or may not be a new sports community coming to HIVE. I'll give you more info on that when I have it.
I had a lot of conversations over the holiday break with folks in The Pub Discord. It still baffles me the way that people take and take and take from the blockchain instead of working on growing their account so that they can create a sustainable system.
In the US, it's hard to imagine living off anything you make on HIVE. Even if your account gets visited by some of the big curation accounts, unless you want to start abusing the system, you are only looking at maybe $20 per day in rewards. You can honestly make five times that working a minimum wage job in a lot of places. The math just doesn't math.
Now, in places where the cost of living is much lower, those numbers might be different, but still, why settle for pennies when with a little work and a solid plan you could be making dollars.
Unfortunately, people don't see the benefit of growing their account. Either that, or they just don't care because they are so focused on what they need or probably more likely "want" right now.
That's why HPUD is an important reminder to be growing your account. Hopefully like many people HPUD is every day for you, but even if you are only doing it once a month, that's better than nothing.
