It would seem that this week is determined to go out with a bang. I felt this opening photo was more than appropriate given the fact that everywhere I look I am seeing green this morning. Bitcoin is on the verge of topping $48,000 and when I logged into my traditional investment account, I was impressed to see that value higher than I have ever seen it before.
I've been seeing news stories lately about tech stocks doing pretty good, so it was just on a lark that I decided to log into my investment account. I'm really happy with where it is sitting at. Of course it would always be nice for it to be worth more, but I am sure I will get there.
I've gotta be honest, I expected a bit more of a snowball effect by now, but it still feels like it is growing to slowly. After investing for 20 years or so I would have expected my annual gains to be growing by leaps and bounds by now. Maybe I just need a couple more years.
It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.
Things I'm Investing In
I know I have covered this before, but I seem to have snagged some new followers over the past couple of months. With the impending bull cycle on the horizon, I thought it might be a good idea to cover what I have been investing in lately. I'll cover a range of investments from crypto to traditional, so take notes!
BTC - This one is kind of a "Duh" I know, but I have been buying $80 worth of BTC every month for a while now. It's hard to say if I will ever make it to being a full coiner, but I don't think it is a bad idea to stack it.
COSMOS(ATOM) - I've been buying $20 per month worth of ATOM for a while now. The staking rate is something like 20% and I can easily buy it through Coinbase and move it over to my software wallet. I've also heard recently that there are a lot of airdrops associated with ATOM, so I will likely be looking into those more in the future.
POLYGON(MATIC) - This is another one I put $20 USD into each month on a regular basis. I have built up a decent stack of it. I know that MATIC was kind of popular in the last bull run, but I hope it still has some legs. If not, I can at least cover some gas costs on the chain.
COTI - Again, this is a $20 per month one for me. I heard about it from
@cryptoandcoffee and I liked what I heard. He has been very bullish on this one for a while. I know a lot of people have certain feelings about Cardano, but I think this one could be good. My biggest regret with COTI is that they haven't cleared US regulations yet, so many of the features are unavailable to me. That's money left on the table as far as I am concerned and I don't like it one bit.
USDC - Finally, as far as my $20 monthly buys, this is the last one. I've been buying USDC for a while now in the hopes that BTC would eventually drop to the $16,000 level or even lower. When that happens, I have a stack of USDC that I will quickly move into BTC. As of today it is looking like we may never hit those levels. Then again, who knows. I could always buy some PANDOSHI when it finally gets listed...
VET/VTHO - This is another one that came on my radar because of
@cryptoandcoffee. I'm not saying he is some kind of crypto guru, but he does know business and he believes these tokens have some practical use cases that will drive the price up in the future. I also like the fact that holding VET (in the right place) earns you VTHO automatically.
CHEX - This is a utility and banking token over on the EOS blockchain. Again, I know EOS has a lot of haters, but in terms of how it works, I think there is a lot to like. I also think it lends itself well to use cases where lots of transactions need to happen at a low cost.
Of course as always, you should do your own research on all of these. This is not financial advice and I am just along for the ride like most of you.
Silver - Thanks to the #silvergoldstackers group, I have been picking up more silver lately. It really is a bit of an addiction isn't it? One of the things I love about it is the scarcity of some of the pieces. I never really realized that there could be such a premium simply because there were only a couple thousand of a certain coin minted. Clearly it makes sense when I type it back out, but it just never clicked with me before.
Traditional Investments - I'm not telling you how to spend your money, but these mutual funds have been really good to me over the years.
| Fund Name | Fund Ticker Symbol |
|---|---|
| EuroPacific Growth Fund | AEPGX |
| The Growth Fund of America | AGTHX |
| New World Fund | NEWFX |
| SMALLCAP World Fund | SMCWX |
| American Funds AMCAP Fund | AMCPX |
| American Funds New Perspective Fund | ANWPX |
| American Funds Washington Mutual Fund | AWSHX |
I also own some Ford stock and some Apple stock that pay decent dividends. I don't put more money into them though, I just hold onto the shares I have. My goal like a lot of people is to one day have $1M in traditional investments. I know it doesn't mean what it used to, but it should still provide a decent supplemental income for the area of the world I live in.
Here's hoping 2024 and 2025 can bring us all a little bit closer to the goals we have set for ourselves.
