Where there is sugar, there are ants. Where there are humans, there live ants. Where there is fruit, there are ants. Where there are flowers, that is also where we can see ants. Ants are everywhere, especially in the tropics. I don't know if ants can live in the cold north. However, it is certain that the ants are the rulers in almost all parts of the earth.
In general, all insects belonging to the Formicidae family, the Hymenoptera, are classified as ants, which have more than 12,500 species.
There are several types of ants that are known to be familiar with the human environment, namely black ants, large ants, red ants, fire ants, and weaver ants or green ants. Termites are also often called white ants, but they are completely different groups from ants even though they have the same social structure.
Ant body size is small, but ants are the strongest animals in the world. Ants are able to lift a load of fifty times their own body weight. Elephants, the largest animal on earth today, can only lift twice their own body weight. The only animal capable of the strength of the ant is the rhinoceros beetle, which is able to support a weight of 850 of its own body weight.
Ants are animals that live in a colony system. One colony has a queen, like a bee or wasp. The ants we encounter "stealing" sugar, absorbing nectar, eating leaves or looking for food are types of worker ants. While the ants guarding the nest are the caste of army ants. There is a difference between worker ants and soldier ants. Worker ants have a smaller body and head size. Meanwhile, soldier ants have a larger head and jaw size.
These photos are of a type of worker ant that I have encountered in several places in the human environment.
I took all of the photos above using the Nikon D300s camera, and some of them were shot by Xiaomi smartphones.
