When I was a kid
I remember constantly having a new favorite song that I would listen to over and over again for a week or two, sometimes even a month or more, before moving on to a new one.
Now that I’m an adult, this doesn’t happen very much. More often than not, I find myself remembering songs from the past and re-listening to them after having not heard them for five, ten, fifteen, or twenty years. Sometimes they sink their hooks into me again and I play them out thoroughly over the course of a week. Other times, I get to the first chorus and I’ve already had enough.
As a parent
I find myself on the other end of the spectrum. Rather than indulging in my favorite songs on repeat and at full volume, I’m inundated by the music my kids like.
So, today I’ve decided to talk about three songs that my children have had on repeat over the past month.
(1)
Let’s start with the most recent song by Wednesday Campanella. This is a Japanese group that has apparently been around for about ten years. Recently, though, they’ve hired a new singer who seems to be giving the group a new look and feel.
In my opinion, this song has a something of a club vibe to it and is fun to listen to.

Next up is a song that was featured in the most recent ONE PIECE full-length anime movie. My kids saw it in the theater over winter vacation and loved it so much that they have been listening to its sound track ever since. This sung is song by Ado, a voice actress who remained anonymous for a long time, but whose real identity was leaked to the public after the songs in this movie became tremendously popular.
Once you get past the horrible intro, this is a really cool song with a very serious retro eighties vibe to it.

Last, this is a song that doesn’t get as much air time in my house as the first two songs, but which has nevertheless been a recent staple. It is the theme song to an animated series called Spy x Family, which is based on a manga of the same name.
The artist singing this song goes by the name of Yama (Mountain) and is an interesting character. She always wears very stylized masks over the upper half of her face, dies her hair blue, and (as far as I know) somehow manages to hide her identity and her true appearance from the public.
This song reminds me of something, but I can’t quite put my finger on what it is.
Happy Listening
