It is that time of year again when the goat kids hit the ground running. As you can see from the above and below pictures the mamma goats are plump and ready to get the babies out. We have a total of 81 mama goats this year and are hoping for around 150 baby kid goats in all.

Yesterday the fun started, we had three sets of twins to kick the kidding season off. This is one of the busiest and most enjoyable times on the farm. It seems like every time you go outside to check the goats there are new babies to see.

Our goats kid out on the open pasture. We average twins but triplets are not uncommon at all. With six babies on the ground and thriving the first day of kidding things are off to a great start.

We try to interfere as little as possible with the goats as they are kidding. We have found that they know what they are doing and the more we mess with them the more we mess things up. After the kids are born and have nursed, we do come in and give each kid an ear tag so we can identify them and who their mom is. Once you get a 50 to 100 babies running around it can be hard to remember who belongs to who.

We have three mamas that kidded and only 78 more to go. We will keep you updated on the progress as the days go by. Thank you for reading and following along.
