Amerika wird heute 250 Jahre alt. Ich habe gerade Thirteen Days geschaut, mehr als zwei Jahrzehnte nach seinem Erscheinen und genauso lange, wie ich es mir vorgenommen hatte.
Zu sehen, wie während der dramatischen Kubakrise unter JFK gehandelt wurde – mit Konsequenz, aber auch mit Menschlichkeit und einem ehrlichen Wunsch nach Frieden –, macht für mich vieles von dem aus, wofür die Vereinigten Staaten immer standen und hoffentlich immer stehen werden: Mut, Entschlossenheit und zugleich Respekt.
„The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave“ löst bei mir jedes Mal Gänsehaut aus, wenn ich diese Worte höre und mir ihre Bedeutung bewusst mache.
Amerika ist für mich nicht nur ein Land. Es ist die Manifestation eines Traums: der Traum von Freiheit, von Entfaltung, von guten Werten, vom ehrlichen Lohn für harte Arbeit und von einem Zuhause.

America turns 250 today. I just finished watching Thirteen Days, more than two decades after its release, and after meaning to watch it for just as long.
Seeing how President Kennedy and his team navigated the Cuban Missile Crisis, with resolve, but also with humanity and a genuine desire for peace, captures much of what the United States has always represented to me, and what I hope it always will: courage, determination, and respect.
“The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave” gives me goosebumps every time I hear it and take a moment to reflect on what those words truly mean.
To me, America is more than just a country. It is the embodiment of a dream: the dream of freedom, of opportunity, of strong values, of earning an honest living through hard work, and of having a place to call home.
