I mostly don't edit my photo's, but do convert them from raw to jpeg with some adjustments (which are otherwise done in-camera, which makes the largest part of the difference between a Canon and a Nikon for instance, albeit it not totally).
With regards to real editing, I believe there's different things:

  • You can have a great photo out of camera (and adjust a bit, or use the camera presets).
  • You can take a great photo out of camera, and edit it into another, a new photo, then you have 2 good photo's.
  • You can have a bad photo out of camera, and edit it to hell to try to make a good one out of it, which 9 out of 10 doesn't work :-D
