"Sometimes you just need a quick escape… but not too far, because, well... emails."
On those rare Belgian office days when the weather doesn’t look like it's been programmed by a moody teenager, I like to sneak out, toss the DJI Mini 3 Pro into the backpack, and scout some nearby spots. You know, keep the creative juices flowing and avoid total screen-induced brain melt.
This time? I ended up in Lembeek. No, not that Lembeke you saw on some list of hidden European gems. This one’s a tiny village in Halle, and let’s be honest, it’s not going to be featured on NatGeo anytime soon. But that’s exactly why I love capturing these places. Tiny towns, meandering rivers, patchwork fields... it’s like flying over a model train set your grandpa built, just with fewer derailed cars.
Spread all over the post, but, in the right order!
Let’s break it down:
Because no Belgian village is complete without a stone church surrounded by cars awkwardly parked like everyone arrived late to Sunday mass. The gothic charm hits harder from above, trust me.
That lovely aerial combo of residential rooftops rubbing shoulders with twisty creeks and tree-lined roads. You’d think a SimCity player laid this out in their chill phase.
It’s always about the curve. The one shot where the river wraps around the fields, catching that sun flare just right, it’s a drone pilot’s version of a mic drop.
Straight-down overhead shots revealing those tidy garden plots, angular rooftops, and the beautifully chaotic way humans design "order." Symmetry meets a bit of chaos.
Would I recommend Lembeek for your next European adventure? Look, it’s not going to replace Bruges or Ghent in your itinerary, but if you’re road-tripping through Belgium and craving some authentic quiet, this place delivers. You get a slice of rural Belgian life, a cozy church square, and a whole lot of peace.
Plus, if you’re into flying drones, this is drone Disneyland, open skies, scenic land, and not a tourist in sight to photobomb your shots.
I do this kind of short escape often. Not every trip has to be an “epic journey.” Sometimes the best footage comes from the towns we overlook. Lembeek might be small, but from 100 meters up, it tells a story of history, community, and that signature Belgian charm.
And DJI... if you're reading this, Mini 5 Pro. Let’s go. I’m emotionally ready.
