Yesterday, while driving, we spotted one of those breathtaking rainbows that make you want to pull over and capture the moment. Unfortunately, traffic wasn’t on our side, and stopping wasn’t an option. But it got us reminiscing: “Remember that one rainbow when…?”
That nostalgic moment sent me digging through my iPhone’s photo archive, and, well, I struck gold, or should I say, a full spectrum of colors, with the promise of a full pot of gold at the end of them (still chasing that one though…). Turns out, I’ve been chasing and capturing rainbows for the past decade, each shot taken with whatever iPhone I owned at the time.
It’s funny how these fleeting moments of nature can create such vivid memories. Some were double rainbows stretching across stormy skies, others barely visible whispers of color above a cornfield. And of course, there were those perfectly timed reflections that made an already magical sight even more surreal.
Looking back at these shots, it’s amazing how much mobile photography has evolved. The details, the colors, the dynamic range, what once required a DSLR, an editing suite, and a whole lot of patience, now happens effortlessly in your pocket. Yet, despite all the tech advancements, the thrill of spotting a rainbow and capturing it never changes.
So, here’s a collection of some of my favorite rainbow moments over the years. Proof that sometimes, the best camera really is the one you have with you, especially when Mother Nature decides to put on a show.
