Let's say you were stuck on an island surrounded by blood thirsty sharks and the only way you survive is to watch a movie that boring movie, and laugh while you watch. What would be your choice of movie?
For me, it's a tough choice to make seeing as I have seen a lot of crazy, boring movies over the past years but the one that sticks out as boring, illogical and extremely boring is, choose or die.
Choose or die is a Hollywood movie, starring Asa Butterfield as Isaac; Who in this movie is a friend to a young coder(Kayla played by Lola Evans), who fires up a lost 1980s survival horror game, unleashing a hidden curse that destroys reality as she knows it, forcing her to make terrifying decisions or face deadly consequences.
On first sight, this simple description of this movie should tell you that it is a horror movie produced to scare the holy spirit out of you. But, it fails on all count as the movie lacks both intent to scare and the will of a horror flixs.
Stop me any day and ask my personal thought on this movie and I will reply you with words that describes the movie's failure.
Okay... But let's start with the little things, like the plot which was actually very nice. Telling the story of a girl, Kayla, who is extremely poor and requires money to maintain her mother's health, to Isaac who is a complete geek/Nerd who loves to draw and is completely in love with Kayla who acts as tho she doesn't see it.
He decides to make a drawing of Kayla when she shows up and discovers the uncompleted art work as well as a weird video game which promises to reward the player with a huge cash prize on completion.
Kayla knows she needs the money, so she decides to play the game with Isaac at a local bar down their street. Isaac obliges but fails to show up. Allowing Kayla to find herself alone in an almost empty bar, with a laptop and the video game.
So, she installs the game and enters into a world of unspeakable horror....Wait a minute!! ..
This movie sounds very familiar, I think it's a failed rip off from the Jumanji movies, the 1995 version and the 2017 version. Only spicing it up by introducing choices that leads to a very speakable horror, because nothing in this movie felt like unspeakable horror. It felt more like a soft horror made by kids.
This movies to me is so boring it's laughable, from the tone of the movie, to the story itself, and even the horror.
I don't know what the writers or producers were thinking, but I know that they turned what would have been a great idea, and a perfect horror flixs into a child's play with an embarrassing ending that proves it has no reason being in a horror movie category.
Finally, when I watched the trailer before the movie, I was really pumped to see the movie but it turned out to be one of those movie with trailers that speak volumes and movies that have no voice. The only thing I enjoyed in this movie was the presence of Asa Butterfield, who is an interesting character I would talk about in my next post. Everything else is left for you to decide.
Personally, this movie is a snooze fest.. you can sleep through it, wake up at the end and still understand that you missed nothing...
