When even my instructors had a hard time completing my homework, I knew that maybe things won't be so bad in the end.
That regex homework was devilishly difficult. Do I still enjoy regex? Yes. Am I even more happy to hear that there are repositories of regex formulas for various situations and I can just go copy/paste without having to waste hours of my life? Absolutely. I'm sure that I'll have to write some custom regex to get things done on the internet. But from the looks of things I'll just need to up my Google-fu to find what I am looking for.
So yes it felt good to know that it wasn't entirely my fault that I couldn't complete my homework. However, we had a mid-day challenge that involved building a callback function that would take an object and return specific values. So if someone wanted even numbers, or strings of 3 letters, the function would be generic enough to do such a thing. I literally spent 20min staring at my computer screen. 5 minutes were spent doing research for this weekend's homework assignment (build a Javascript memory game) and another 5 minutes walking around the classroom with my hands in prayer, maybe hoping for some divine intervention to get the answer.
I hate that I can look at a problem and somewhat visualize what I am looking for, but have no idea where to start or what kind of syntax/rules I need to follow. Its like dealing with a flat tire for the first time. You know you obviously need to replace the tire with a new tire, but how exactly do you do that? What tools do I need? When do I jack up the car? Seems like a silly example but that is because we have all either changed a tire or seen one done enough times to know all the steps.
So probably one day I will be just as good at writing callback functions as I am at changing tires.
On a side note I haven't changed a tire in years (that's why I pay for AAA and auto insurance). And my car's oil filter has a funky orientation, so I haven't done an oil change myself in years either. Most of the newer cars have engine blocks that are packed so tightly that doing your own auto maintenance is more trouble than it is worth. I'd love to have an older car; a good muscle car from the 60s. You could practically step inside the engine compartment and do work in some of those models! Before I leave this planet one of my goals is to get my dream car: a 1969 Chevelle SuperSport. I'm not even too picky about the color. Victory Red (I think that's the Chevy red), black or even that pea soup green. Its a bad-ass car no matter what color. Do you agree? Don't come at me with your Ferraris and Lambos. I know they are nice, and fast. And sexy as hell. And if you are gonna give me one I'll be happy to accept it and thank you for the gift.
Speaking of goals, this weekend I resolve to do a few things that need to get done. One is to get a haircut. Another is to clean up around the house and maybe even do some yard work. Also to get out and socialize. I might be able to break free from my homework this weekend for long enough to see a movie or do something that isn't sleep/gym/study.
Gotta have goals!
