The weather is sunny and dry ...
... a poppy flower looks like a red alert ...
... here on the hot asphalt.
The beautiful flower appeared, quite unexpectedly, in this place ... a few days ago ... and now looks like an integral part of the traffic system ... like some biological traffic sign or something like that.
When I noticed the poppy, and being raised in Yugoslavia on poems about blood, war and partisans where the poppy was one of the most common and overused symbols ... my first thought was about some car accident, and some blood that was spilled there ... so the red poppy appeared ... like it was regularly appearing in those poems, after battles and executions.
The gentle red flower in combination with some heavy machinery was a real cool stuff to put on photograph.
No matter from which prospective and social or generational background you look at it - it always has some kind of vague but fairly strong symbolism.
The poppy is still growing there, on the road that leads to the shopping mall. And on the parking lot, in front of some cheap boutique I saw this car covered with many adverts ...
... for the same product - a local, Croatian mineral water, in circulation since 1828.
Usually I don't care much about adverts, the only feeling I can normally get from seeing these things is irritation ... but I liked this patchwork ... because was made of many old, historic adverts from the relatively long history of commercial use of this mineral water called Jamnica.
This is a view at the construction site not far from the shopping mall ... which was also a construction site not so long ago.
When I saw these strange hairless humanoids in one of the store - front windows ... my view immediately turned monochrome ...
... and I got kidnapped by my own thoughts and memories, which brought me in some strange land ...
... somewhere in between an old Twilight Zone episode and the John Carpenter's movie They Live.
Back in the colored, and fairly colorful, reality ...
... I saw a human being and some lifeless mannequin with seasonal offer, divided by the thick glass.
At this point I've done all I had to do in the mall, so I went to the center of the city.
Some lovely flowers, high on the balcony of some unremarkable, even a bit ugly, condominium, greeted me there.
After a short walk I arrived in a much better place ...
... dominated by the ancient Colosseum.
A young girl in uniform was kind of guarding the giant building built some time ago by the Roman Empire ... or just waiting for the bus that usually stops there.
There is a giant pot near the Colosseum.
Is old ... beautiful ... surrounded by lavender ...and some cool succulent plants are growing inside.
I took a walk through the park ...
... that covers the area between the Colosseum and the sea.
I saw some lovely green sprouts ...
... and some scribble on the wall. It looked like something completely devoid of any meaning ... but then ...
... I noticed the smaller replica of that mysterious art on some ceramics tile ...
... and now the thing looked like some intriguing art.
This was a well hidden surprise, I never noticed before.
After that, I sat in my car and drove to another suburban neighborhood, to another shop, where I had to buy some more stuff.
This is a place at the edge of the city ...
... where the vegetation has a more prominent role.
I took a little walk among the olive trees ...
... after the shopping.
I photographed these twins ...
... on the little truck parked in front of the hardware store ... and then ... I went home.
As always in these ramblings on HIVE, all the photographs are my work.
