Yes, I meant to say that I'd expect Chinese party bosses to be more savvy, less emotional and more calculating than their counterparts in the 1930's Soviet Union.

They know that a mass repression campaign may sweep them up too, and a massive economic crisis may have a destructive effect on their wealth, and even their lives. And I would imagine they would rather avoid situations of this kind.
