Exactly correct.

And not just in Mariupol.

In Mariupol, the Marines escaping encirclement broke up into two parties. One joined up with the elements of Azov and other units holding up the Azovstal Metalworks, the other party decided to surrender to the Russians (about 200-300 Ukrainian Marines).
