So many people my age do not see ever being able to "retire". What some people don't seem to understand is if they did not work they could save thousands every year in coffee alone. Yet, I jest. That is a bit overestimated but hopefully you get my drift.
I'm retired from being a Registered Nurse. I experienced a forced retirement after a horrific tangle with an 18 wheeler. I survived the wreck but it changed my life forever.
I am only 57 years old but my lifestyle is more like a 67 year old. I've never retired from working, I retired from nursing. I began using my nursing knowledge to write books, articles, contributions to journals etc.
I still think like a nurse. Just because someone has to retire from practice does not mean their knowledge goes away. I wish I knew how much money in medical cost I have saved my family and friends. Veterinarian bills are non-existent in our home because I treat my animals with little assistance from a Vet.
My best friend works fulltime and has to spend massive amounts of money taking care of her cats. I help her with advise and try to help her save some of that money.
I love geriatric patients. As an RN they were my favorite patients to work with. I still have relatives that are in their 80s and 90s. I help them as well. My great uncle used to tease me and call me doc. lol I know I am not a doctor nor would I want to be one-ever!! I wouldn't even want to be an NP. Those nurses are loosing compassion somewhere between BSN and NP. Like any thing else, nursing has it's great compassionate ones and then there are those that went into nursing for the money or because they thought they looked cute in scrubs. Seriously, it happens.
I have had experiences with nurses in a clinical setting that I could not figure out how in the world they passed Nursing State Board exams.
Ok. Enough of that. Nurses are like Marines. Once a nurse always a nurse. It's a frame of mind. :)
