I am seeing a lot of chatter lately about how Microsoft and Amazon are supposedly burning too much cash on AI data centers. Honestly, I get why people were worried. For a minute there, their stock prices were completely stalled because the market thought they were just digging themselves into a massive debt hole to buy GPUs.
But here’s the thing that clicked for me recently. Microsoft actually played this incredibly well. They gave people a taste of M365 Copilot for free, and now they are actively rolling out the paid enterprise versions. If you work in an office, you’ve probably heard someone talking about how much time they save using Copilot for Excel formulas. Companies are happily paying for this because it actually boosts productivity right away.
When MS dropped their Q2 earnings, the stock jumped 14% in a single day. Why? Azure revenue grew by 43%, and they jumped from 20 million to 30 million paid Copilot users in just three months. On top of that, they actually reduced their projected 2026 AI budget from $190B to $175B. They know how to control their spending! Amazon is doing the same thing by building custom AI chips optimized for their own networks.
This isn't like the dot-com bubble in 2000. These guys know how to manage debt and generate insane cash flow.
So what am I doing? Absolutely nothing crazy. I’m just sticking to my 30-year long-term plan. I buy VOO, QQQ, SGOV, IAUM, and BND every month based on my set ratios. I don't even check my portfolio returns that much anymore. If my smaller bags like SMH or AIPO drop by 25%, I just scrape together a little extra cash from my paycheck and buy the dip.
