Often referred to as "the world largest toy" or "the miracle in Bilbao", it is located in Bilbao, Basque country, north of Spain.
The museum contains twenty galleries that spread over three floors, designed by Canadian born architect Frank Gentry who is based in Los Angeles and has credit for some of the most amazing buildings in the USA.
Set on the sloping edge of the Nervion river, the materials used in the construction includes titanium, sandstone/limestone and glass.
The construction started October 1993 and ended October 1997,took four years and it was funded by the Basque government.
The museum was inaugurated by King Juan,accompanied by wife Queen Sophia in attending a Gala in honour of the museum on October 17,1997.
The first exhibition showcased 300 pieces of art, about a million people visits the museum per year and it has generated about 100million in taxes for the city.
It is the largest building of the group of Guggenheim Museums in the world, but the Abu Dhabi's site,set to finish soon is bigger than it.
Twenty years after opening and the museum has put the city on the world map.
