Machu Picchu, at an elevation of 2,430 metres (7,970 feet), just makes your mind boggle. Seeing this place first hand, really puts into perspective, just how little we know about how, and why, this testament to ingenuity was built.
Expanding on Part 2, we now take a closer look at the distinctively different building styles used to construct the buildings, and surrounding structures, that make up the main "temple" complex of Machu Picchu.

So let's continue down that path, that we left off on, in part 2.

In the above image, the two very distinctively different, styles of construction are obvious.

Below, are some examples of the later, Incan constructions.

For those interested in the deeper mysteries of such places, the below image tells much more than a thousand words.

Continuing on through the previous archway, into the megalithic, inner sanctum area, the same style of construction is seen here, as at Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, Tambomachay, and all around, and within, Cusco.

The damaged section, in the upper right, is due to a modern day, academic attempt at deconstruction and reconstruction.
A monument in itself, to people who think that they're smarter, than they actually are.

So, that's it for my selection from Machu Picchu.

If you've enjoyed this selection, be sure to check out my previous posts too, and join me again next Monday, when I share some photos of the city of Cusco, before flying off to Iquitos, and the Amazon.

Peace.
