Day 3 of my French streak on Duolingo and I鈥檓 actually starting to feel like I鈥檓 getting somewhere. I opened the app around 8:35pm and the first thing that came up was "NEW WORD" with this girl in red saying "Moi aussi !". I had no idea what it meant so I just listened to the audio like 3 times. Then I saw the options "from good Me too" and it clicked. Moi aussi means "Me too". I tapped Me then too and when it said "Excellent!" I was so happy. It鈥檚 one of those words you鈥檒l actually use in real convo, like if someone says "I like football" you can just reply "Moi aussi". I even practiced saying it in the mirror after because the "moi" sound kept coming out wrong.
After that they threw "Paris et Lyon" at me. The guy with the mustache, Oscar, said it and I had to put the words in order. Paris and Lyon. Easy enough. But then Duolingo switched it and asked me to pick the correct translation for "me too" and I immediately went for "moi aussi". Got it right and my combo went to x3. I was feeling confident at this point. Then came the speaking part where Oscar said "Lyon et Paris" and I had to repeat it. My pronunciation was shaky the first time but the second try it accepted it and gave me +2 XP. Saying French out loud still feels weird but I鈥檓 getting used to it. My roommate even heard me and asked if I was speaking French to my phone.
The next big one was "Je viens de". That popped up as a NEW WORD and I knew this was gonna be important. The sentence was "Je viens de Lyon, et toi ?" and I had to build "I am from Lyon and you". I messed up at first because I put "nice to meet you" instead of "I", but then I fixed it. Once I got "I am from Lyon and you" right it said "Amazing!" and combo x5. That felt good. So now I can ask where someone is from and also answer. "Je viens de Lyon" is stuck in my head now. I even said it to myself while washing plates later. The owl also gave me 3 hearts back so I didn鈥檛 have to use gems.
By the end of the lesson I was picking "je" for "I" and repeating "Bonjour, je viens de Lyon, et toi ?" after Oscar again. Duolingo gave me hearts back and I closed the app feeling proud. Day 3 taught me "moi aussi" and how to say where I鈥檓 from. It鈥檚 not much but it鈥檚 progress. If someone asks me anything tomorrow I can at least say "moi aussi" or "je viens de...". Small wins, but I鈥檓 keeping the streak alive. Tomorrow I鈥檓 aiming to learn how to say "I live in" so I can finish the intro properly.
