It would be obvious that nobody wants to be unprepossessing, even if he or she is not interested in fashion or something related to appearance. On the other hand, we want to be charming and stylish. Then, how could we be fashionable? Color is the easiest answer to this question.

Paint Yourself, rather than Put something On

Human is able to recognize various color depends on color perception. Historically, we have found numerous color and named them such as red, blue, green, or yellow. However, what is 'color' itself which we frequently say to explain the aforesaid components?

Academic field says that it is the thing produced by its back-reflection on eye when light strikes an object due to difference of light frequency. It sounds kind of stuffy and has no idea what to say, actually, you do not need to understand this unless you want to have an academic degree or study more deeply.

Color consists of three elements which are hue, brightness, and chroma.

Hue: characteristic that only chromatic color and distinguishes them from other color.
Brightness: level of bright or dark. the more white it has, the brighter it is and vice versa.
Chroma: how turbid certain color is. It has level from 1 to 14 and higher number means that that color is clearer.

In addition, color is divided into two types in accordance with these components. Achromatic color and chromatic color.

Achromatic color: color that does not have hue or chroma. It is possible to impose level only based on brightness.
Chromatic color: a term explains every color which has hue, brightness and crhoma, except for achromatic color.

Alber Henry Munsell created 'Color Wheel', that you can see on picture above, to visualize the distribution. The wheel shows every color dominated by the three components you are able to make with the five primary color; red, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Colors which look each other is in a relationship of complementary color since when mixing these two colors it is supposed to be white color therefore if you match items that have complementary colors you can emphasize division on your clothing.

Color has bunch of characteristics and relationship between each other so we are able to take anything we want for our fashion. Meanwhile, it is impossible to describe every single relationship and characteristics of color in this post, thus, I would take three things; Contrast, Temperature, and Matching.

CONTRAST

Contrast is a visual distinction between object and background. Contrast in color has various type yet I will describe simultaneous contrast only because this is the most functional one for fashion.

Simultaneous contrast is literally a phenomenon that occurs when you recognize more than two colors at the same time,optically. These are several types of simultaneous contrast.

Contrast of Hue: when certain color looks different from its own color due to contiguous color.
Light Dark Contrast: difference of brightness caused by neighboring colors. Bright one looks brighter and so does dark one.
Contrast of Saturation: phenomenon that contiguous colors changes chroma of certain color. It goes inversely by the temperature of the colors.
Complementary Contrast: colors in complementary relationship emphasizes chroma of each other.
Contrast of Extension: phenomenon that the strength and brightness of color is intensified by its by proportion of extent.
Cold Warm Contrast: warm-toned color and cold-toned color intensified each other.

TEMPERATURE

Temperature of color is not the same with the things that we could see in daily life indicated as Fahrenheit or Celsius. It's a area of solely feeling.

Warm/Cold: color which shows warm atmosphere such as red, orange, and yellow and cold one for instance blue, green, and navy.
Weight: the brighter color is, the lighter it looks. vise versa.
Forward: color that contains higher brightness, temperature, and chroma seems to go forward and extending.
Backward: color that contains lower brightness, temperature, and crhoma seems to go backward and contracting.

MATCHING

Matching for color could be said as positioning because it is to put more than two colors you want to wear in harmonizing way. It is different people by people to judge if the colors you chose match well or not, so I only SUGGEST some basic principle, not shows STANDARDIZED methods.

by Chroma: it feels calm and stable when low and cheerful and bright when high.
by Brightness: brighter color looks vibrant and breezy and darker one looks grave and gloomy.
by Relationship : similar colors look unified and complementary colors look splendid, intense, and vivid.

HOW TO COLORIZE

To be fashionable. This is the only reason why I am talking about color with these bunch of paragraphs. Whatever the item you choose is shirts, pants, skirts, jacket, and so on, it has color and the color establishes more remarkable image that comes to someone's mind building first impression. Thus, therefore, you have got to paint yourself rather than put something on.

Then, how could you utilize colorizing learned through this post? it is awesome if you are allowed to deal with every contents of color but probably impossible. So I would recommend to decide which to chose achromatic or chromatic. Weight and extent are important for the former one hence you just have to focus on brightness.

Whiter color is lighter than black one and blacker one is heavier than white one. Black and White style is relatively common than other style genre so some people may think it's boring. It seems to prove that "I'm newbie" of fashion for me. Why? Black and White is mother of color, which means that it is feasible to do same with everything you can do with other colors. Whether putting white on top and black at bottom to make lower part more heavy, putting black one more and less white one to look darker, or mixing them to build unified look. There are lots of thing you are able to do with only white and black.

On the other hand, what can we do what if we choose chromatic color? it is true that chromatic color is more complicated since you have to consider both brightness and chroma, but you can play more various styles.

You should decide whether you are going to play calm vibe with low brightness colors or eye-catching vivid vibe with high brightness colors first. All of these are possible; setting high level of chroma on top as make eyes on above, to do same in an opposite way, or put high chroma color on low chroma color.

You are able to make up for your physical disadvantage and even make good style emphasizing your good part of body, but only you fully understand your body and how to match color. For example, if you are skinny, you can make your body look bigger as placing colors from low temperature color to high temperature color among warm-toned ones, from inner wear to outer. If you are stressed because your leg look short, select colors in complementary relationship and allocate more proportion on your under body. Then, your legs would look longer because complementary color divides your body visibly and your legs have more than upper body.

Like the aforesaid, you are able to play more various fashion style even if you do not know fashion items well, with high level of color study. Make body look skinny, play calm vibe or cheerful one, emphasize top part or bottom. You are allowed to choose whichever you want, even what first impression he or she would establish when you meet. That's the most interesting part of fashion and colorizing.
