This is in Devonport in Auckland. Summer is just around the corner although it has been so wet lately that views like this have been rare., so when there is a nice sunset, you will see a lot of people enjoying it, perhaps with an ice cream or fish and chips on the beach.
I was writing the other day that there isn't a lot to do for people who arrive on cruise ships, which is about 40 or more each year, but this is one of the cool spots. A short walk from the wharf is a ferry which will take you here in about 15 minutes. Devonport has a great beach, Segway tours or perhaps a carriage ride, led by a team of Clydesdale horses.
There are lots of bars, cafes and restaurants and some interesting stores, art galleries, second hand collectible book and other things to explore including a dormant volcano which also has bunkers from WWII and a steep hill that kids like to slide down on cardboard boxes. There are old canons and New Zealand's only naval base, which also has a navy museum. All within easy walking distance. Then of course there is the beach and a lot of people fishing off the wharf.
