Besides the horrific massacre at the country music concert in Las Vegas one of the things that concerned me was that the guy bought some of his weapons from a store called Guns and Guitars. It almost seemed like a slap in the face for music.
I think back to one of the themes of the Woodstock Music festival back in 1969 which was make love not war.
It seems incongruous to me that you could go into a store and at one end find musical instruments designed to bring harmony into the world and on the other side there are weapons that helped kill 59 people and injure hundreds more.
Personally I'm not with the second amendment. Sure people have the right to own firearms if they can prove they are upstanding citizens and have safety training. Hunting for food is a legitimate activity even if I don't like to do it myself. But sitting in a cafe and seeing someone in shorts, a t-shirt and a pistol on a holster for self protection feels over the top from me. Are they wanting to protect themselves from a grumpy chef?
I'm tired of the rhetoric about guns don't shoot people, people shoot people. I think that people without guns will find it hard to shoot people. With every right comes responsibility and I don't think that part comes with the same amount of emphasis. Humans are supposed to be the smartest animals and we hear about the bravery of people that came to the rescue in Las Vegas and I agree they are heroes. But would we need people to step up and be heroes if lunatics couldn't buy firearms?
It seems I am on a soapbox this morning. I just hate to see injustice sugar coated in the name of people's rights. You have the right to do care for other people, not to kill them. I'm just saying.....
