I really believe that everyone has a talent, ability or skill that he can mine to support himself and to succeed in life.

Dean Koontz

During the holidays, I was contemplating on what gift I would give to my chidren for christmas. Receiving gift is something children look forward to every Christmas and I don't want to rob them the joy of receiving one.

I was shopping for gifts but still undecided on what to give until I arrived at the school supplies section. I saw a poster color material and thought that my eldest child might love this as a gift since in her early age, I have noticed that she has the ability in drawing.

She was three years old when she started sketching. One time she asked for a pen and paper and out of the blue she sketched our family. She did it even without any picture for reference. Maybe she just had a clear concept on her mind of our family. She drew the four faces and told me it's papa, mama, her and her brother. I was blown away upon seing it. It was a proud mother moment for me. I had never taught her how to draw coz myself is not good in drawing. It was unexpected and made me realize she may have a talent in drawing.

This is her sketch. I posted this on my IG and FB account so I will always have something to look back to about her "arts works". I was quite surprised that it is not the usual stickman drawing.

I didn't pressure her to always practice her drawing skills. I just let her enjoy her childhood and drawing is part of it. Everytime she feels like she wanted to draw then I will always be there to assist her in whatever she needed like providing her pencils, papers and coloring materials. And everytime she made something and showed it to me, I am always ready to give my remarks and that includes commenting on how she can improve her drawing. I also let her watch videos of different drawing hacks so she can learn from it.

She also loves challenges. One time, I draw something that I posted here on hive. It was because there was a drawing challenge in one of the community here that gave chance to non-artists. When she saw my drawing she said she can draw it better than me. So i challenged her to do it.

So this is her drawing. This looks funny though but still I am proud. The above drawing is mine and below is hers.

Last christmas I gifted her a sketchbook and poster colors. I shifted away from giving toys since she's already eight and I hated when all those toys will just go to waste. They only play with it at the beginning and forget about it after.

When she received it she didn't look so excited about it but she was curious. It was her first time to use poster colors. When she tried it, she enjoyed it. She loves mixing colors to form secondary colors. She was being creative by thinking of things to paint and colors to mix. It become a learning experience and an outlet of her creative mind. It gave her something to work on to avoid boredom especially when she's at home with only her brother as her playmate. It also become their bonding moment with her brother.

The perspective drawing was inspired by a drawing hack she watched on fb reels.

Every child is born with a talent, ability or intelligence. Each has different potentials. Some are good in arts, music, dancing, language, logical thinking or writing. Some are good at a specific thing while others are may have two or more of these intelligences that they can discover, develop and improve if given a conducive environment and more opportunities. These will help them survive in life and succeed by using these talents, skills or intelligence as a foundation towards a career path.

As a parent it is our responsibility to guide our children and help them discover their talent and develop their ability and skills. We are considered their first teacher therefore, it is important that we are aware of our children's capabilities so that we will be able to support them and provide opportunities for them to improve it. We should be their greatest supporter and motivator. Let us not ignore their potential. These talents or skills will be their weapon in life.
