Long way to go in Mahaba Island, Leyte, Philippines

It's the weekend! I am glad I can finally relax for a while after a stressful work week. It would be great if it is spent somewhere relaxing like an island with a lovely beach, right? I love to show you this island in Inopacan, Leyte, Philippines named Mahaba Island. It is one of the four scenic islands in Leyte called Cuatro Islas. Its sparkling white sand beach, clear blue sea and unique coves are truely captivating. You can access this island by riding a banka or boat from Inopacan baywalk were you will pay the necessary fees. Then the boatman will suggest where to go first. You can choose Mahaba Island or Digyo Island. But most of time when they know you will stay overnight, they will bring you to Mahaba Island first.

I was able to visit this island two times and I can say it has two version of its beauty. One is during high tide and the other one is during low tide. Since this island is intended to be just a stop over and not for overnight camping, you can catch either the high tide or low tide. When I visited the island with my friends it was high tide. The island has a wide strip of white sand beach where bankas docked. During high tide the water will cover the strip of sand forming a shallow lagoon.





For me, the lagoon formed during high tide is the highlight of the beauty of the island. It adds to its character. You can swim in the lagoon with nothing to worry about your safety because the water is shallow. But still it pays to be extra careful, so wear a life saving jacket 😂.

If you are not into swimming and just want to relax, feel the sea breeze, drift away from the stresses of life, there are perfect areas to chill. You can opt to lie down under a tree or on the white sand.

The elevated area caused by the erosion of the sand with trees and coconuts, also is a beautiful feature of the island.

If you are a photographer or a selfie bum the island is so worthy of every click of your camera

I can't remember what exactly was I thinking of the moment, but I believe I look better with my back, hahaha.

After 3 hours of stay in Mahaba Island, we were headed to our next destination which was Digyo Island which I will be takling about in my next blog.

My second visit in Mahaba Island was with my family. This time we were welcomed by the island during the low tide. This is the second version of its beauty. Our route was Digyo Island to Mahaba Island then homebound.


The sea was low, exposing the wide strip of white sand of the island. This time you can enjoy more of the beach.

This is the lagoon area. As you can see there is just a little amount of seawater and the sand and rocks are exposed

On this area the seawaves shaped the sand in a way that you can enjoy sliding or sand surfing

Since it was low tide, it was easier to climb up to this rock for a dramatic photo op.

Mahaba is a Tagalog word which means long and if you have come down to this point of my blog, another Filipino word is added to your vocabulary and somehow understand the play of words in the title. Heheh. Kidding aside, truely Mahaba Island is full of surprises. Whatever version you like of the island, the high tide or the low tide version, it doesn't matter, you will surely enjoy and love it.
