When it comes to household chores, I love cleaning more than any other chores. I find scrubbing the tiles more satisfying. The splish splash sound of the water as I wash the clothes is rather eargasmic to me. I love that I can dive into deep thoughts while washing the clothes or have my mind fly to wander as I scrub those stubborn oil and food remains on the plate. I love cleaning because I don't need to use too much of my brain cells to have it done. It's a routine with repeated process and techniques so I could spare some of my brain energy for a more mental activity.
For these reasons, I leave the major job to my cleaning products. When it comes to my cleaning products, I only settle for the products that really works. Quality over price is what matters to me. In this way I could save up more time and energy in cleaning.
Let us take for example, the use of dishwashing products. There are so many dishwashing products available in the market. The prices range from as low as 0.4$ to more expensive ones at 1.5 $ for a 250 mL dishwashing liquid. I can always choose the cheaper ones but it won't work for me as I find these cheaper products of lower quality. They are less concentrated and when used in washing my dishes, I need to apply more soap or wash them at least two times to take away all the stubborn oil on my dishes. So rather buy on these cheaper dishwashing soaps, I would settle with this one product that has been proven and tested that really works for me and satisfies my standard.
The same goes with using detergent powder. I don't handwash since I don't have the luxury of time and energy to do it. I machine wash and experience taught me that with machine wash, the quality of the detergent soap really matters. The better the quality, the better the cleaning. Also, I do not usually use fabric conditioner as I find many of its fragrance too strong for me or for other people. I understand that people have different preference when it comes to fragrance. Sundried clothes smell good and clean enough coupled with a detergent soap that smells good.
This is how I select my cleaning products. And when I find the right products that serves its purpose, I stick to it for as long as they satisfy my standards for a quality cleaning products. I am not easily persuaded by new products that promise good quality. I stick to what is proven and tested. Because my time and energy are precious, more precious than a few pennies that they say I could save from buying cheaper but less quality products.
This is my response to this week's prompt from The Minimalist Community.
