I love orchids.
For a very long time, I have not had access to these tropical flowers because I live in a country with a temperate continental climate, not suitable for orchids. That's what I thought until recently when I was surprised to learn that many orchid species grow in Romania. I found out that these flowers can live almost anywhere on earth... Not only can they be anywhere but they form the most widespread family of higher plants. There are over 30,000 species and over 200,000 hybrids. Incredible!
It is true that I have seen growing spontaneously, in the hills and fields where I spent my happy childhood, all sorts of wild plants with strange flowers that I am only now inclined to believe were orchids.
In recent years the flower trade has become a huge business. The trade-in imported flowers. The trade-in flowers were brought from Holland. Apart from roses and tulips, orchids are the most sought-after flowers now. All the shops selling flowers are full of various species of orchids, a large number of such plants has made their price fall and they are easy to buy.
There is hardly a window that doesn't have an orchid in a pot. The orchid has several great advantages that make it a desirable and widespread plant now.
Not fussy, easy to care for. You just need to know a few simple rules about how to feed and water it and that's it.
Unlike the vast majority of potted plants, the orchid remains in bloom for a long time. Flowers that appear to be made of wax or plastic last a long, long time.
My first encounter with orchids was not a lucky one. I don't know what I did wrong but the first plants I had died quickly or didn't want to bloom after the first bloom. Then slowly, slowly, our relationship got better and better, I learned when to water the plants and they rewarded me with more and more flowers.
Some of these flowers became models for a few photographs. Photos in which I want to show a little of the great diversity of colors and shapes that orchids have.
