That's what I usually say when I get angry, actually, it's a saying when you're angry: I see red in front of the eyes! That's not the case now but searching through the photo archive focused on the color red reminded me of this saying.
I can't say that red is a favorite of mine but I find that I like it often, even in my photos. It's a difficult color for me, especially when I'm doing various edits. It's quite hard to find the right balance between a bit and a lot but I don't think my eyes help me as much as they should either.
At the same time, I don't know if I understand what a photo essay means, but for now, I think there must be a connection between the photos, beyond the color of the subject. Maybe I'm wrong about that and I really wish I am. I think I'll soon get it right, but until then I'm only using photos taken in the same place, even if at different times, during my three holidays...
I love the sea and everything close to it. I live far away from the sea and the most beautiful sea I've been able to see and feel so far is the Aegean Sea. The Aegean Sea surrounds the island of Thassos, one of the largest islands in Greece.
Of course, the most sought-after pleasure on an island with a Mediterranean climate is the beach. Most people who holiday on an island do so primarily to soak up the sun on the beach.
I admit now that even though the red is quite well represented I still don't think it is the main subject of the photo, neither for the photographer nor for the viewers (especially men!).
I like the contrast the red gives on the blue, even though it hurts the eyes if you look too long.
I found many beaches with umbrellas of different colors, from white to blue, but I find the beaches with red umbrellas the most photogenic!
I no longer go to the sea to sit in the sun and on the beach. Some of the pleasures I lose as I age.
Instead, I walk around all the time, walk around and observe. I walk and enjoy what I see, the flowers...
Little animals, curious and playful young animals...
The various objects that are useful or no longer so but remain with a beauty of their own, even if they no longer correspond to the purpose for which they were created. Here I think it was a fountain!
Then the surprises, the unexpected, and even unnoticed things. These photos are from 2019 but only now, when I was looking for red for this post, I noticed something...
An insect so mimetic, an insect I have only seen in TV documentaries or magazines, an insect that fascinates many who know about it.
It looks like a leaf... It's a nun!
Mantis religiosa (popularly called the nun) is an insect of the family Mantidae. It is found in meadows, steppes, and on the edge of forests, preferring dry, sunny moors. The nun has a much better sense of sight than other insects and can turn its head 180 degrees in search of prey. Source
I like this island because I can see how the inhabitants live as they are, without the glitter and shine of tourist places, resorts made for pleasure... superficial pleasures. This car through which trees grow, abandoned on a roadside, has nothing touristy about it, I like that the Greeks don't want to hide the reality.
Red is not really the majority, green seems to invade the image but the little piece of red immediately catches the eye.
At least that's what happened to me!
