Some Random Birding This Past Week

A Goldfinch enjoys a dinner break...
The Thistle, and Safflower seed is a big hit in my feeders. Also, there is some cheapo corn as filler. But mostly, thistle and Safflower seeds
Depending on what I fill the feeders, I may see many different varieties. Also, it helps top be consistent in filling the feeders, and obviously, who and what shows up is VERY dependent on time of year.
I see consistently, Cardinals, American Goldfinches, Chickadees, Red Breasted and White Breasted Nuthatches, Purple Finches, House Finches, Baltimore Orioles, Dark Eyed Junkos, Catbirds, Titmouse, Flickers, Blue Jays, Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, and Eastern Towhees, an occasional Tree Sparrow, Warblers, and rarely, hummingbirds, because of the flowers on my deck.

Less directly, the seeds falling attract Turkeys, and Red Tailed and Red Shouldered Hawks, to collect any ground visitors below the feeders!!

For the life of me, I still cannot figure out why Scientists and Ornithologists call this one a Red Shouldered Hawk
Chipping Sparrow
Not all the birds enjoy feeding from the feeders... in particular, Cardinals, some Sparrows like this Chipping Sparrow, Dark Eyed Junkos, Catbirds, Titmouse, and many others enjoy scrounging on the ground. I simulate it, with some feed tossed about on the deck.
To the animals and birds around me
to put more plants in than I take out
And be a good steward for the world around me!
