This information: What is the protocol for flying the POW/MIA flag? put out by the Dept of Defense shows the 6 days that the POW/MIA flag should be shown and also the places where it is supposed to flown continually - one of which is: "- Each U.S. post office". So your local post office should have been flying it every day all along.
