I grew up in a home where domestic abuse was the norm and fear was a constant companion. It's a devastating life for a child, to be afraid in the one place you're supposed to be safe and nurtured. To see physical abuse being done to your mother in front of your eyes and being helpless. I would implore mothers in abusive relationships to get out for themselves, but more importantly, get out of that relationship for your children's sake.
