In this article, we will look at my experience with my first three tournaments and what my win rate is. Surprisingly, it has not been very high and I still have made out in the positive as we will see below. For comparison to your situation, I have a silver level deck with a few level 2 summoners and a CP of 8,295.
Buy in: 52 DEC
Winnings: 525 DEC
All of these tournaments were at the bronze or novice league level and did not include legendaries. Two of them were reward and chaos legion only and one had no restrictions on edition of cards. My win rate turned out to be 31.5%. OUCH! However, that is the beauty of these tournaments. You can lose and learn while also earning at the same time. Many of these tournaments have rewards for just participating or for placing as far down as 100th place. Take for instance the YGG Weekend Tournament. This run each weekend with a 1 DEC buy in. For this low risk, you can gain back 5 DEC for finishing in the top 100. Also, there is a lucky place number throughout the top 100 where you can earn up to 500 DEC. As you can see above, that is where I got lucky finishing in 89th place and earning 500 DEC. Even if I did not get lucky, I would have received 10 DEC getting back more than 10x my buy in.
Strategy
Learn, learn, learn!! With a buy in of 1 DEC for many tournaments, you are risking one or two battle wins worth of rewards. You will most certainly play higher power opponents as well as more skilled opponents. However, they have the same card caps as you and so there is not as big of an advantage as you may think. Diamond and Champion league players are not as skilled at knowing what abilities monsters have at lower levels and how they synergized together. This is where us bronze and silver league players can shine. Play your best strategy and hope for the best. If you do not come out on top, then learn what your opponent did better and try that next time.
The developers have made a point of trying to improve tournament gameplay and I think there will be only be more positives coming from tournaments in the future. The better you get now, the better you will be down the road. If you enjoyed this article, please upvote or comment below. I would love to hear about your tournament experience as well.
