In this article, we will breakdown Week 2 for the community contest and what decks may serve to be powerful in trying to rank up over the next week. First off, I believe this is a great addition to the game and offers some deck composition strategy that is unique to the week and will make it more fun during week play rather than just the daily grind for play to earn. There will also be some interesting price changes we may see as some cards that usually do not make the cut will be forced to be used in certain contexts. As you will see in that post, Week 2 pits Genesis, Trial of the Gods, and Divine Order decks against each other and the requisite cards in each set are only used. Without further delay, let us get into each God that I believe has the strongest cards in each set and what you will want to build around.
Genesis: War
The genesis set is so powerful in many ways and includes meta defining cards such as demogorgon and pyramid warden. What I wanted to do was look at the most expensive cards and see where the greatest number of cards were for a specific God. War does not have the top monsters however have the greatest volume from what I saw as well as ones that play well with each other in my opinion. There are a ton of buff cards in the genesis war decks such as whetstone for your relic, out of its misery, and sharpen. These cards mentioned saw a big buff earlier in the fall with the relic war deck and I could see a similar play here. Naturally, a heavy genesis deck is not for the budget conscious but may give you that extra boost to recoup the cost from the contest rewards.
Trial of the Gods: Sleep/Control Deception
One of the most expensive decks in the past, sleep deception has fallen off in the meta for the most part with demogorgon pushing through on other teams. That card is still quite important for sleep deception however trial of the gods has a few tricks up the sleep as well. Cards such as elixir of the panther and dream stalker can really boost a win rate for a sleep/control deception team. Adding in some order cards can really slow your opponent down to get to the end game where this type of deck really shines. Time is the killer here as the win condition for this play style is a late game overpower. If you are used to aggro play styles, this is not the deck for you.
Divine Order: Zombie Death
The cheapest deck of the ones mentioned and one I have personally had a decent win rate with is zombie death. Divine order has all the meta cards for this play style such as netherswarm lord, necroscepter, and cursed obelisk. Guild enforcer is also pivotal to stall if you have not had the chance to get your board set as well as mixing in an arch of amenose to play before a vitality board clear of your opponent. The deck can play aggro, mid game, and somewhat late game as well but does not hold up well against the decks mentioned above given the meta cards in those decks. One card that may give you some more late game play would be hippocrias monster which when paired with zombie death can really be buffed up huge when played.
The Golden age contest as it is being called runs from Nov 22-25 and the rewards can earn you up to 2,000 GODS Tokens. The other nice change that they made last week was that each rank gets it’s own reward tiers rather than ranks overall. This means even for a newer or low budget player, you could go on a run and earn the share of tokens. Good luck to you all over the next few weeks during these contests and please upvote or comment if you enjoyed this breakdown.
