@quillfire, as usual, very thoughtful piece with a lot of great stuff in it. I hadn't heard about MEOS until now, but I've been traveling for a couple of weeks. Some gems:

• Biometric Identification (limiting accounts to one per person and hence making multiple-account-self-upvoting impossible) is required to open a MEOS account; and

The wave of the future. Facial recognition and fingerprint detection will be an intrinsic part of our lives very soon.

• Like Paul on the Road to Damascus, each in their turn will be suddenly stuck, as if by a bolt of Heavenly lightning, with the desire to enact reforms and the understanding of how precisely to implement them.

I think you are secretly a believer. ;-)

• "But STEEM Monsters will save us."

This one is particularly funny because Steem Monsters appeals to a certain type of user, of which you are not one. It's a great business, a great idea, and an awesome attractor to gamers. But it's not enough to save Steemit. In fact, Steem Monsters is completely unreliant on Steemit, and vice-versa. If the blockchain goes belly up, @aggroed and @yabapmatt will likely move to another blockchain, maybe even EOS. If Steemit dies, the blockchain will not necessarily die and Steem Monsters could save the blockchain. Steemit, however, is on its own.

• @dan constructed STEEM/Steemit prior to constructing EOS/MEOS. Unless he has an IQ of 2, he will have thought long and hard about the problems that plague Steemit, his original social media creation.

There is no one better poised to drive a dagger into the heart of Steemit, and Steem, than its chief developer. The @dan haters let their emotions drive their thought processes. No matter how you feel about him, you've got to recognize that he was the brains behind the coding development of Steem and Steemit. And I don't even have to know anything about him to realize that. The fact that ALL development ceased upon his departure is evidence enough. He's doing good things in the industry and it's quite possible he could be the Steve Jobs, the Mark Zuckerberg, the Jeff Bezos of blockchain development. If EOS wins the blockchain war, a lot of people will eat crow.

• @dan's recent tweet, "Would you prefer a centralized heaven or a decentralized hell?" ... and the responses to it, speaks volumes. Many of the respondents weighed in for the latter. "Bring on the chaos, so sayeth the Messiah, Satoshi." Incumbent upon ideologues of all stripes is the necessity to suspend reality so as to prevent subjecting their Utopian visions to common sense scrutiny. Constructive criticism is blasphemy and the implementation of pragmatic solutions that deviate from the doctrine, heresy.

Perhaps the best part of the whole piece. Pure poetry.

• Using a portion of EOS' marketing budget, offer to Swap Steemians' SP, up to a maximum of 5,000 SP per MEOS account, for a period of 30 days following MEOS' launch, and based upon the EOS/STEEM exchange rate on June 1.

As others have noted, this would require some thinking through. Thomas Jefferson noted that people are likely to suffer abuses for a long time before casting off restraints because fear of the unknown is greater than the love of freedom (a very loose paraphrase). People may not like Steemit, but they are familiar with it and know that they can still earn rewards with their content despite the obstacles. EOS has yet to prove itself. Until it does, migration is a dream and giving up rewards on Steemit for a "maybe" is itself an obstacle. But I suspect there are people who would do it in a heartbeat.

• The announcement of an EOS-for-SP Swap, and the subsequent mass exodus out of STEEM/Steemit, would cause the price of STEEM to collapse, wiping out the capital of tens of thousands of Steemians who have spent years accumulating their meager post payouts.

Of course, that's a big IF. A stark possibility, but an IF nonetheless.

• Machiavelli was wrong ... name a Great General and you have named a General who was LOVED by his men.

Actually, great generals must be respected. This love/fear dichotomy means nothing if a leader is not respected.

Awesome post, and perhaps your best clarion call to date. I think Steemit is destined for someone to replace it. A second @dan performance has a better-than-even chance at doing so. Dan Larimer is already a legend and has a lot of respect in the blockchain community as a whole. Everyone is watching to see what he'll do next.
