The loyalty here, as many of us have said, over and over and over, is to people and not to the platform and the dysfunctional community it's created. I concede, too, that we are also precious about our content, but that's never lost - if you make sure not to lose it.

Anyone who believes platform loyalty is enough to sustain a business model should ask "Where is MySpace today?"

Within the Steemit ecosystem are sub-systems that work and it's those communities that function on the platform, but live on Discord, and from there on/in other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, and Instagram.

This is one of my beefs with Steemit. Is it really social media or a glorified blog platform? If the mass of social takes place offchain, on a desktop app no less, how can it be called social? One of the many major missteps of the platform is that its IM function is not baked into the system. Steemit has a huge UI problem, and doesn't seem motivated to fix it.
