Very informative post, and really not that long in the end :-)

I think Epicurus's argument is rather obviously true, although I've been presented with the "necessary for free will/etc" arguments when making similar arguments to his. But the attempted counter arguments are so torturous, they really make a great demonstration of bias in action and how it makes people spend inordinate amounts of mental energy to maintain a belief.
