"Arcane" Interactive mini-game in LOL client and Arcane drops!
Arcane hasn't been out on Netflix for more than 72 hours and the series based on the League of Legends game already has a 9.4 rating on IMDB. The Arcane event held by riot was insanely entertaining. After watching the released episodes I hopped onto the client to play some games of the characters in the series and was surprised to find a new mini-game in the client itself.
I am getting Sentinels of Light vibes from this. It was a very fun and one-of-a-kind event in the game's history. Plenty of storylines to explore and different missions with a completely new points allocation system put in place.
As of now, the Arcane event has only begun its first steps. It is still very unclear how the event is going to roll out and what the different missions will entail. From the first look, it feels like we will be exploring Arcane through 4 different champions that also play main roles in the series.
- Jayce
- Vi
- Caitlyn
- Jinx
The mini-game is derived from the Arcane series' storyline. Which is based on the original lore of the champions in the game. It isn't very obvious now, but I am expecting a hunt of some sort that ends with exciting news about the Arcane's history or power.
As of now, I can only access Jayce's journal through the "Explore the Archives" option. All the other options and characters are locked and will be unlocked on set dates with Jinx being the final champion to unlock.
The mini-game is designed like an interactive escape room game. You click on the arrows provided to move your POV and find objects to interact with. Everything is set up just like in the series, so having watched the series helps pick up the pace and go ahead with the missions.
The how-to explains that content will be released in line with the show. This means no spoilers for us who grind all night to complete the missions. I am all for it!
One of the first things that caught my eye within the archives was Jayce's study table. The exact table was shown in the show. My excitement was over the roof. It's obvious I am obsessed with this game. We cab see the hextech stone that saved young Jayce and his mom, the sandwich from which Powder took a bite, and Jayce's Warhammer which is yet to make a debut in the show.
Jayce's journal consists of a lot of updates on his research. Many of these updates can be clicked for more information. We can read about his failures and close calls. There also is information on the materials like the hextech stone and other components needed to make the arcane.
If this isn't fate then tell me what it is. I hopped on a 5v5 ARAM game to complete the first mission given and I rolled Jayce. Within the game, Jayce is a very smart scientist and his abilities revolve around his creation - the Hammer.
In total, he has a set of 7 abilities which all use or are cast from his hammer. He can play as melee or ranged depending on his hammer.
I played with my favorite Jayce skin - Warhammer Jayce. It is ARAM so I decided on playing lethality Jayce which is basically a glass cannon, but in the end, it turned out just fine.
Apart from the Arcane event and Arcane mini-game, the map also has a huge difference to celebrate the new show. You can see the differences in structures like the inhibitors, turrets, and nexus. They have been remodeled to fit the Piltover style from the show and lore.
Upon demolishing them the giant balls on the top of the structure roll down as the structure itself explodes. I genuinely like this new change and I am sure it is just for the Arcane show and won't stick around permanently.
Upon completing the very first mission of the event, I received a Jayce permanent and Arcane Jayce skin. Very cool!
I feel so connected to the game now that I am both learning about the characters and getting the skins, too!
